a new vision, Africa, and a beautiful outreach to a world that needs it most.

Reaching the impoverished widows and orphans of southern Uganda is no small feat - and when tasked with building the look, feel, and emotional impact of a brand new organization with a very special purpose, care must be taken in the way it’s visually presented. That’s where we stepped in for WANDO International.

the goal

Uganda is a world away - not only geographically, but culturally and economically, too. We were approached by WANDO International at the launch of their organization, and tasked with developing and executing the visual content for their website, social media, and printed materials in the storefront location, brochures, and hang-tags for their Uganda-based, hand-made jewelry. Operations for WANDO range from special care for orphans in the region to development and management of a special bead-making program to help encourage entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency. Our task: to show who these just who these people truly are, and what their lives look like day-to-day to encourage new supporters of the organization.

Our Solution

How do you accurately and emotively represent a people so culturally different than yourself? You spend intentional time with them. We lived on-site for 2 weeks with the people WANDO serves to learn who they are and represent them well. By creating impactful emotional imagery ranging stoic to exuberant, we captured the full spectrum of what it means to live as a Ugandan - and we shared that imagery with the organization’s worldwide supporters to move them towards supporting the organization’s efforts in Uganda with their time, money, skills and resources. It worked so well that we went to Uganda twice to capture photos of these incredible people and their amazing, difficult, but beautiful way of life.
